DONE

Well, I've obviously been a little neglectful to this blog that last couple of months. I went in thinking I could manage a blog and internship. Ha.

I'm happy to announce on Sunday I graduated. FINALLY. It feels like it's been the longest 4 years ever. I also accepted a job at my internship school in 2nd grade. I've obviously started scouring the internet for tips and tricks for 2nd grade.

Oh, and I'll try to keep more up to date with this. My goal is to give advice to teachers that are just starting out from a teacher that is just starting out, haha!

Five for Friday

A little Five for Friday brought to by Ryan Gosling and my life right now.

Yay for 3 day weekends & family in town <3

A while ago I broke my laminator...and then this week I broke my teacher's laminator, but then I fixed it. Then I got so excited about laminating, I tried to fix mine. BUT it's still broken. So, what did I do? Bought a new one. Whoops. :D

Thank you, Ryan...me too <3

Created these cute little pencil headers for my cooperating teachers board and added an I can... section on the board.

Today, I grouped students into table groups ALL by myself. Let's hope I really did separate the talkers and put all the "I can't see the board" kids in the front.

Welcome Baby Liam <3
My oldest cousin welcomed her first little one today. Heading to the hospital in a bit.

Hope everyone has a fabulous weekend. Mine will be filled with lesson plans and personal journal entries and student progress plans and laundry and grocery shopping and laminating and hopefully the pool.

Whoa

Last month, I was sitting my pretty little big booty on the couch watching my brother and sister play without a care any homework/schoolwork to do. A lot has changed in one month. A lot.

One week ago, I walked into my student teaching classroom. The classroom that I'll spend the next 15 weeks. It sounds so like so little. In 15 weeks, I'll be a college graduate with a teaching degree. The moment I've been waiting for since I took my first college class in Fall of 2010. Yay.

My hopes for this blog were to touch on a few lessons I've learned from student teaching while right smack dab in it.

  • Lesson #1: Wear comfortable shoes and clothes, but remember that you're not an employee. Don't dress like you already have a job.

  • Lesson #2: Interact with the students as much as you can. Talk to them, help them, and get to know each of them as much as you can.

  • Lesson #3: Always bring your lunch. And run as fast as you can back to your room after dropping the kids off in the cafeteria. Your lunch will go from 25 minutes to 15 if another teacher or administrator sees you in the hallway.

  • Lesson #4: Get to know the staff/employees besides your cooperating teacher. They'll be more likely to help you out when in need.

The past week has been such a great experience and I'm only just observing and helping out here and there. Next week, I start teaching!

Monday Made It: Teacher Binder

In preparation for Student Teaching and mostly because I have no idea what grade I'll be with...still, I created a teacher binder that can be used with any grade. And yes, there are a ton of sites that offer customizable teacher binders, but I'm not sure exactly what I'll be needed until I walk into my cooperating teachers classroom on Monday.

So, without further ado...here is my binder :)

I wouldn't decide between a plain binder with a front pocket or a decorative binder. I fell in love with this one. I {puffy heart} gold polkadots. Added my monogram with some vinyl on my Cricut. And viola!

One of my favorite parts of the binder is a simple easy post-it note to do list. I binder clipped it to the front for easy access. All I did was create 6 squares and put what each square was for. I only filled four squares with copy, print, to-do and to plan. Once school starts, I'll figure out what I want to put in the last two squares.

Because the binder has NO pockets, wahh, I bought these 3 pocket inserts. Stickers, a notepad, cards, a calculator and pen....and whatever else you feel you need. I have another pencil case for extra pens, high liters, etc.

My dividers are as follows: (this portion is totally up to you and what you feel would work best!

Calendars: district calendar, blank calendar and school calendar (and my student teaching attendance sheet)
This Week: currently empty BUT will have any materials or information I need to teach during the week.
Next Week: anything I need to copy, print, grade, etc.
Lesson Plans: blank lesson plan templates, grader, etc.
FEAPS and standards: pacing guide, CCSS and FEAPS for FIU
FIU assignments: any college assignments I have due or materials given at orientation
Student Info: transportation list, contact info, allergies, grades, etc.
Resources (Misc.): where I'll put the crap that I don't have another place for :D

And although, I didn't make this.....BEHOLD, the cutest dopiest wonderful-est pencil case ever made.

I'm linking up at 4th grade frolics, you should too!

And I hope everyone had a wonderful first day back :)

Goals for the Year

I've always been a listen maker, goal setter, to-do list checker-offer. So, when I recently came across a post from Fourth Grade Lemonade where she listed her goals from last year, how she did and then her new goals for this school year, I knew I had to make one of my own. I found the original post from I {heart} Recess and you can still link up and post your goals for this year.

Here's mine!

Personal: I've been tracking calories for a couple weeks now and I know it's the only way I'll be able to lose weight, with exercise of course. I'm using My Fitness Pal. So far, I've lost 6 pounds. Being on vacation doesn't help much, but I am sticking to it as best as I can. My goal for the remainder of the year is to be at my ideal weight of 155-160. I'm 5' 11".

Organization: Since, I'm not sure if I'll have my own desk or own area, I plan on keeping everything organized in a binder and planner. I usually start off well, but then start throwing papers everywhere, when I get busy. My goal is to NOT do that!

Planning: I've learned so great ideas at my University, so I want to put into practice the engaging lessons and hands-on activities that we've been taught.

Professional: I want to make sure I don't just learn from my own teacher, but all the other teachers at the school. Especially the ones in the same grade. I know that everyone can teach me something.

Students: I JUST CAN'T WAIT TO MEET THEM!!!

Motto: Many times I just try and do the bare minimum to get by. My goal this year is to excel at what I do.

Link up here: I {heart} Recess

Oh, and print yours out and keep it in your planner or desk to remember your goals for the year!!

August Currently

Yay for free wifi. Thanks ATL airport <3 11 days in New Mexico and 12 days till I find out where I'll be interning. Not that I'm counting or anything.

Excited to spend some time with my little sister and brother - exploring, relaxing and giggling for the next 11 days.

I'm linking up with Farley for August Currently. Isn't this design adorable? TOTALLY can't believe it's already August.

And incase you don't know what Jamberry nails are - here's what I have on today. I did the wraps yesterday and then painted my nails while waiting for my flight hence the really crappy paint job. Hopefully I didn't annoy anyone with my fumes, lol

Aren't they adorable? AND super easy to apply!
